About Family Chiropractic of Fairfax: A Creating Wellness Center in Fairfax

We've been delivering quality chiropractic and wellness care for the Fairfax community since 1982.

Our approach is simple. We believe that health is among our most valuable possessions. And while we generally meet people after they’ve lost their health, our commitment is two-fold:

1. Relief Care
Relief or wellness care... it's your choice.

Relief or wellness care... it's your choice.

When many people seek care at our office they usually have one goal: relief. So that’s where we start! During this initial stage of intensive care, we have several obligations:

  • Uncover the underlying cause of the health problem
  • Suggest a care plan to produce the fastest results possible
  • Offer ways patients can participate in their recovery
  • Explain the value of post-symptomatic wellness care
2. Wellness Care

We encourage our patients to achieve the highest levels of health they can. Through educational opportunities (like this website), we hope to communicate the ongoing value of chiropractic care and getting involved with the Creating Wellness Lifestyle. Our desire is to see our practice members abandon the prevailing sickness care model of health (waiting for symptoms and then taking action), in favor of the emerging wellness model.

You’re the Boss

Regardless of your health goals, please understand that we see ourselves as mere servants. You’re the boss! It’s your body, your health and your future. Our job is to offer you the finest chiropractic care possible, and it’s up to you to decide how much of it you want.

Five Reasons People Consult Our Practice:

Which one will prompt you to take action?

Happy smiling family

Everyone, regardless of age or condition, can benefit from a nervous system that is working at its very best.

Obvious Spinal Problem

Most people associate chiropractic care with headaches, neck and back problems. Our interest in the spine is because it houses the nervous system that carries vital communications between your brain and your body.

Visceral or Organic Complaints

Some consult our practice for “non-back” health problems. If the patient has vertebral subluxations, chiropractic care may be helpful. And while formal research is limited, we've had personal experiences with those suffering from bedwetting, asthma, colic and even stomach problems.

Natural Drug Free Health Care

Those who wish to avoid drugs or surgery will often visit our practice first. Chiropractic care is a safe, natural approach to better health.

Maintenance and Prevention

If you’ve had chiropractic care elsewhere, you already know the value of ongoing chiropractic care. We’d be honored to be your chiropractor.

Stay Well

We experience life through our nervous system. Those who want to optimize their health, be all that they can be and perform at their best, contact Family Chiropractic of Fairfax: A Creating Wellness Center.

Chiropractic Spinal Adjustments

Chiropractic spinal adjustments constitute the greatest percentage of type of treatment provided in our office. The spinal adjustment is used to treat spinal subluxations. A spinal subluxations is a misalignment of a bone (vertebra) of the spinal column in relation to the one above or the one below it.

When the vertebra are misaligned they don’t move properly which causes an irritation at that level of the spine. This can start as a feeling of soreness or stiffness. This discomfort can progress to a stronger or sharper pain which can radiate down the leg (sciatica) or down the arm or up into the head as headaches (depending upon which spinal level is being irritated).

Irritation of the spinal nerves (peripheral nervous system) can cause those nerves to function incorrectly. Since the nerves of your body carry signals from your brain to every part of your body (telling it what to do) and also carry signals from your body back to your brain (telling you what it is doing), irritation of these nerves can cause these signals to be interfered with, causing parts of your body to function improperly. This can cause your legs to be weak, your stomach to digest improperly, menstrual cramping to be worse or blood pressure to be raised, for example.

Spinal subluxations also cause earlier degeneration of the discs of the spine and earlier development of arthritis. Spinal subluxations can cause a lot of health problems not usually associated with the spine.

Before we provide a chiropractic spinal adjustment, a thorough consultation and examination (often including x-rays) is performed to determine if a spinal subluxation exists and to confirm that a spinal adjustment be performed safely.

Our chiropractic spinal adjustment is a gentle movement of the spinal vertebra, which is performed by hand, to carefully move the subluxated vertebra back toward the proper spinal relationship.

Chiropractic in 100 words or less

Aches and pains are signs that your body isn’t working right.

Your brain, spinal cord and all your nerves control how your body works.

Physical, chemical or emotional stresses produce a defensive posture.

Muscles contract, locking spinal joints that pinch or irritate nearby nerves.

Lack of nervous system integrity sets the stage for disease and ill health.

A thorough examination helps chiropractors find these vertebral subluxations.

Applying a precise force to stuck spinal joints helps the body right itself.

Health usually returns as repeated visits restore nervous system integrity.

That’s why chiropractic care has helped millions get well and stay well.

Introducing Dr. Gary Dennis, Fairfax Chiropractor
Fairfax Chiropractor, Dr. Gary Dennis

Fairfax Chiropractor, Dr. Gary Dennis

Hi, I’m Dr. Gary Dennis. I’ve been in practice in Fairfax for 28 years and still love coming into the office every day to care for my patients to help them regain and maintain their health. I was originally attracted to chiropractic as a profession because the science and art of chiropractic was based in a deep respect and understanding of the human body’s ability to repair and regulate itself.

Through undergraduate and graduate studies of anatomy and physiology I was awed by the complexity of each of the body’s systems from the circulatory system to the digestive system, from the immune system to the reproductive system. What I began to clearly understand was that the best thing I could do, as a physician, was not to add anything to the body but rather to eliminate any interference to proper body function.

As a chiropractor, I care for my patients as a whole person with a single purpose of helping my patient (no matter what age or condition) to be as healthy as they can be. I do this in two ways. First, by making sure their spine is properly aligned and mobile so that nerves function properly which in turn eliminates interference to proper body function. Second, by teaching my patients how they control how healthy they are by giving them guidance in the three dimensions of wellness:

  • the physical dimension (exercise),
  • the bio-chemical dimension (nutrition and supplementation), and
  • the psychological dimension (managing stresses).

We call our office the Family Chiropractic Center of Fairfax because we treat each of our patients and each of our staff members as family.

I am very fortunate to have been blessed with a wonderful family including my lovely wife Debbie, three college-age daughters: Jessie and Dani who will be graduating from college in May, Alyssa who will be graduating from college next May, and son Ben who will be starting his freshman year in college in September.  Their enjoyment of life has been enriched by respecting their body and following a healthy lifestyle that includes chiropractic care, eating well, keeping physically fit, and working to reduce stress in their lives.

We would be happy to take care of you and your family. We look forward to supporting you in teaching your family, from a very early age, how to care for their body through development of habits that will last a healthy lifetime.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me at my office at (703) 273-7733.

Introducing Dr. Lisa Przybysz, Fairfax Chiropractor

I graduated with honors from Life University’s College of Chiropractic. I received my Bachelor degree in Biology from the University of Detroit Mercy.

I have been personally seeing a chiropractor since the young age of six. My mother started taking my younger brother when he was one year old because of constant and severe ear infections. After about a month of care he was rid of the infections, off antibiotics, and not in need of another eustachian tube surgery. Because of the great success with my brother’s health, my mother brought in the rest of the family for chiropractic evaluation. Thereafter, a monthly chiropractic adjustment became a very important part of our healthy lifestyle habit.

I have always had a passion for working with children and I dedicate much of my practice towards helping families have healthy pregnancies and births as well as assisting infants and children through their milestones and many challenges of life for optimal growth and development. I have taken several continuing education courses that focus on pediatric and maternal care.

I specialize in very gentle, specific adjustments for both pregnant moms and their kids. I am also certified in the Webster technique, which is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that is specifically for pregnant women with a baby in the breech or transverse-lie position. Use of this gentle technique allows the baby to move from the breech position to the more conducive position for delivery.  I am also well versed in cranial sacral technique, which is a specific technique that focuses on the structure of cranial bones and the flow of the fluid that bathes the brain and spinal cord.

I am a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association and am currently enrolled in their pediatric diplomat program. I am also a member of the Virginia Chiropractic Association and the International Chiropractic Association.

In the Fairfax area and community, I am a member of the Northern Virginia Holistic Moms Network, Birth Matters of Loudoun County, and Business Networking International. I also have a research article published in the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health Chiropractic on the Chiropractic benefits and Management of a Child with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).  I am also an active member of La Leche League international, an advocate for breastfeeding mothers and a La Leche League leader with the Fairfax City chapter.

My husband, Dave, and I gave birth to our first baby, Ava, in 2008.  She was born at home on May 11. We also have a pot belly pig at home whose name is Burger. We spend lots of time outside and really enjoy camping, hiking, gardening, and visiting as many local farmers' markets as possible! I look forward to seeing you in the office.
