The Poboy and Crawfish Etouffee are Louisiana staples that should never be attempted by anyone outside state lines. That is unless a couple of native Louisianans decide to bring the cuisine of the Big Easy to Virginia.
That is what Melissa Crosswhite did in April 2009 and she has blessed us all by bringing her traditional Cajun' cooking to Leesburg. Dig into one of their incredible starters such as Boudin Balls, a family recipe for generations of "ground pork and rice mixed with seasoned vegetables that is floured and deep-fried."
Then it is time for the dish that Louisiana is famous for, and Melissa and her staff don't skip a beat with their Crawfish Etouffee. Beautiful sauteed crawfish cooked with trinity (onions, celery, and bell pepper) in a blend of creamy butter sauce, then served over rice.
Your meal would not be complete without the dessert everyone makes room for, and that is the pillowy Café du Monde Beignets. Step out back for live music, and if you close your eyes you just might think you are on Bourbon Street. We now have our own Louisiana treasure right here at home.
About This Local Business
Louisiana is known for its 18th century French influence, and for using the term parishes for the local counties. It is rich in heritage and customs, and native Louisianans carry that pride with them. It is also well known for its incredible cuisine and music that makes it a destination for those looking for that perfect blend of timeless jazz and unbelievable food.
On April 7th, 2009, Melissa Crosswhite decided to bring her family kitchen to Northern Virginia. By giving the public the “Experience” of Cajun cuisine and heritage, which she was raised on, and appreciated back in South Louisiana, The Cajun Experience was born.
Nestled away in a historical home built in the 1700’s, people from all over Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Maryland and West Virginia began making the trip to Leesburg to get that fantastic “Taste of South Louisiana”.
With several generations of family recipes, Melissa Crosswhite and her staff at The Cajun Experience are there to make sure you will feel like you're back on the Bayous.
Yelp- "I moved from New Orleans to DC a year ago. I have been craving me some good ol' cajun food for quite some time when I saw an article in the Washington Post about this place. I read the reviews on here and thought... hmmm... road trip.."

Yelp- "Overall, I was impressed. We got our eat on and left with a smile. BTW...when I told the waitress I was from New Orleans, she immediately asked if I wanted tobasco with the meal...the owner stopped by and chatted for a while. It was a nice experience. I would recommend it to anyone needing a little taste of "the South"... "
Yelp- "This place is very unique. Service was excellent --- professional and yet friendly. The server gave excellent advice --- L'etoufee (a crawfish dish, don't hold me accountable for the spelling) was amazing. The bread pudding was very good also, especially with the hickory coffee. We will come back to this place!"
