the story

BGR The Burger Joint - Fries It all goes back to the long days of summer, growing up just outside Philadelphia where each Sunday the entire neighborhood would gather for a block party of sorts. As a child, there was nothing better than Mr. Kaufman's burgers. Philip Kaufman was a butcher and he owned the only prime beef butcher shop in the area. He definitely knew his food. You could smell his burgers cooking over the grill for blocks. All the kids lined up, waiting to get their hands on the first one.

I never forgot the smell of the burgers cooking, nor that special one-of-a-kind taste that immediately brings me back to my childhood.

As an adult, burgers were simple. Grab some ground beef at the local store and put it on the grill for backyard cookouts. They were always good, but I was in a constant battle to recreate that fond childhood memory for my family and friends. Then it became an obsession. We visited all of the burger chains, both big and small. Some were good, actually very good; but not spectacular, and not worthy of my lifelong memory of The Event.

  Today we stand here ready to present to you our passion and commitment to create enjoyment, pleasure and memories for you and your family. Our burgers are crafted with the finest beef on the planet. We only use grain-fed cattle; all natural, no hormones, fillers or antibiotics, and most importantly they run free in the fields. Our prime beef is dry aged (the amount of time is a closely guarded secret), blended and ground fresh.

BGR The Burger Joint - Burger The beef is only one component, but it's the canvas we use. The buns are made for us locally and delivered fresh every day. The tomatoes are the finest available. Lastly, the burgers are grilled to temperature over an open flame -- not fried on a piece of stainless steel. We present to you not a fast food place, not a mass production burger operation, but a "joint" -- one that you can make your own, stay awhile and enjoy the food.

Our exclusive, award winning blend of prime, dry-aged, all natural, hormone free, grain-fed beef. All of our burgers are served on a fresh, buttery-toasted brioche bun. The buns are baked exclusively for us and delivered fresh every day. Please be patient as each item on our menu is cooked to order. No shortcuts, no pre-cooking, no heat lamps.

We don't take fries lightly around here. The best burgers have to be matched with the freshest and best fries, period! All fries can be topped with parmesan, rosemary or roasted garlic.

The Gold Standard**
Thick cut, Yukon Gold Potatoes.

The Burger
This is the one that put us on the map. Served on a fresh, buttery-toasted brioche bun. Specify lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mojo sauce. Add cheese, applewood bacon, double it.

Veggie Burger
Our fresh house-made recipe including brown rice, black beans, oats and molasses. Served on a fresh, buttery-toasted brioche bun. Specify lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mojo sauce. Add cheese or applewood bacon.

Turkey Burger
Impossibly flavorful. Freshly ground and blended with portobello mushrooms and a hint of gorgonzola cheese, then cooked sous vide (very low and slow). Served on a fresh, buttery-toasted brioche bun. Specify lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mojo sauce. Add cheese or applewood bacon.

Perfection in finger food! Mini versions of our award winning patties served on miniature potato rolls with cheese, pickles, onions and our mojo sauce. Four to an order.

The Cuban
Our Burger topped with slow roasted pork, ham, sweet pickles, dijon mustard and swiss cheese. Served on our brioche bun and grill pressed.

The Greek
Featured on Food Network's "Throwdown with Bobby Flay." Yes, it won! Fresh ground leg of lamb, seasoned with cumin, mint and garlic. Topped with tzatziki sauce and feta cheese. Served on a fresh, buttery-toasted brioche bun.

Ahi Tuna
Indeed, this one really works! Fresh sushi-grade tuna topped with grilled pineapple, pickled ginger, a touch of teriyaki sauce, and our mojo sauce. Served on a fresh, buttery-toasted brioche bun.

The Wellington
This was by far our most popular burger of the month. Roasted mushrooms, caramelized onions, garlic with a touch of mustard seed and blue cheese all atop our burger. Served on a fresh, buttery-toasted brioche bun with our mojo sauce.

The Southwestern
A fan favorite during the 2008 election cycle. A 9oz burger infused with southwestern influences, like chipotles, poblanos, onion and chilis. Topped with pepper jack and served atop our black bean salsa. Served on a fresh, buttery-toasted brioche bun with our mojo sauce.

The Lobster (seasonal)
"The Best Lobster Roll in Washington" according to Washingtonian Magazine. Lump claw and knuckle meat pulled from Maine Lobsters, served on our slider buns with a special dressing and crisp cold lettuce.

The 9 Pounder
As featured on The Travel Channel, Food Network, and in an official I.F.O.C. competitive eating contest. Actual weight including bun and condiments is 15.4 pounds. Two heads of lettuce, eight tomatoes, three red onions, four whole pickles and a river of our mojo. Comes with a bottle of Maalox. If one person can eat it in one sitting it’s free. Feeds approx 10-15. 24 hours notice please.

In keeping with grandmothers and mothers around the world, "You must always have something green on your plate", we introduce you to asparagus fries. Large asparagus spears grilled and sprinkled with parmesan cheese.
