Gourmet Italian Entrees, Wine & Fine Gifts

CHARLES TOWN - The owner of a restaurant in downtown Charles Town, which has been serving up homemade Italian dishes since late November, hopes that by continuing to grow her restaurant slowly she'll find success.
Angela Jones, owner of So Angelina!, said she comes from a large Italian family with strong culinary traditions, and that once her children were out of the house she started cooking for friends. Her friends' reactions to the dishes helped convince Jones to open a restaurant, she said.
Jones, who's in the insurance business with her husband, has never owned a restaurant before and wanted to start small by offering to-go dishes before looking at eat-in options.
"I kind of wanted to start small and get my feet wet, and I kind of thought this would be the way," Jones said. "This is a little harder because I don't have a stove, I just have an oven, I do everything out of an oven, and to put the stove in, all the exhaust systems and everything, the price just got astronomical. So I said, 'Well let me just see if it really goes over,' and it's been so well-received."
Jones added that So Angelina! is almost just an extension of what she and her family have been doing at home for years.
"It's just a wonderful place for people. They come in and they smile, and that's exactly what they do in my home," she said. "At home, when I'd have people over, I loved to set a table, and I enjoy doing it and I think it showed. Guests would come in and instantly feel at home. ... I think that I've done that here."
Pepperoni rolls have been selling well for So Angelina!, partly because local residents who moved to the area from Morgantown and Fairmont developed a taste for pepperoni rolls while in that area, Jones said.
Apart from sandwiches, pasta dishes, wine, soups and dessert, So Angelina! sells pastas and other ingredients for home-cooked meals that are almost impossible to find in the area, according to Jones.
In addition to adding tables and other elements of eat-in restaurants, Jones is considering teaching cooking classes and holding wine and food pairing events in the eatery. Going forward, Jones said that she'll look at purchasing her ingredients from local farmers.
So Angelina! is located at 304 W. Washington St., Charles Town, and its hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The restaurant can be contacted by calling 304-725-9008 and its website, which is currently under construction, is online at www.soangelina.com. So Angelina! is also on Facebook.
"It's like I'm living my dream," Jones said.
