A Brief History
In 1961 Howard Carlyle and Harold Anderson opened Carlyle & Anderson, Inc., a John Deere dealership in Hamilton, Virginia. Both men were highly skilled, and shared the responsibility of the business. Howard took care of the accounting aspects of the business, and Harold managed the service and technical issues.
In 1968, John Deere offered Carlyle & Anderson, Inc. the opportunity to acquire a dealership in Hagerstown, Maryland. With cautious optimism, they accepted the offer and moved in, thus starting the establishment of Carlyle & Martin, Inc.
In 1992, Carlyle & Anderson, Inc. opened another John Deere dealership in Winchester, Virginia. In 1995, feeling the need for a larger building, land was purchased nearby and a new facility was built.
Also in 1992, Howard Carlyle’s son, Bo, took over the daily operations of the business, and is now President and CEO.
In 2002 a new building was built in Purcellville, just off the Rt. 7 bypass. This new building provides much larger sales, parts and service departments in order to better serve their customers.
